2012 Club Day - What a Success!

The Club had a hugely successful day on Sunday. Many thanks to all the volunteers who gave freely of their time on an August Bank Holiday Sunday to contribute to the work that took place.

· All windows and external doors are varnished.

· Window sills, quoins, plinths etc are painted in the traditional Westport RFC colours.

· The roof is now moss free.

· The timber fascia and soffit has been treated.

· The timber fence has been painted.

· All around the Club house has been tidied including the stores.

· The pitches were sanded.

· A new surround sound system installed.

· All furniture, windows and toilets have been cleaned.

It is incredible to think that all this work has been carried out in just a few hours. In conjunction with this work we are also upgrading our playing facilities and drainage stones were also delivered and put in place yesterday.

The pitches were fertilised on Saturday and after the battering they took over the past two winters, the remedial works carried out have brought them back to top quality.

The younger kids had their faces painted and used up their energy on the bouncing castles and playing tip rugby.

Watching the All Ireland Football Quarter Finals and the Olympics whilst listening to it in surround sound was indeed an experience.

All the hardy grafters were then treated to a barbeque to sustain them after their toils. Thanks to all who helped out in preparing the cooked food, salads, potatoes and of course the cheese and biscuits after!

The presentation ceremony took place soon after and it was great to relive the success that last season brought to the Club. A special mention must go to Mark Walsh who not only won the Development Squad Player of the Year but also the Development Squad Most Improved Player of the Year. A remarkable achievement for a guy in his late thirties!

Other winners were:

· Senior Player of the Year - Chris Ryan

· Senior Most Improved Player - Tom Dever

· U18s Ladies Player of the Year - Emma Fabby

· U18s Ladies Most improved Player - Gemma Hester

· U16s Ladies Player of the Year - Claire O'Leary

· U16s Ladies Most Improved Player - Erin Rowley

· U19s Player of the Year - Danny Moran

· U18s Player of the Year - Thomas Geraghty

· U17s Player of the Year - Dwayne Corcoran

· U16s Player of the Year - Niall Feehan

· U15s Player of the Year - Aidan Walsh

· U 14s Player of the Year - Liam McNulty

· U13s Player of the Year - Alex Farrell

Medals were then presented to the U19s and U17s for winning their respective Connacht Cup campaigns and jerseys were presented to last season’s Rice College Senior Squad.

Clubman of the Year was presented to Simon Kavanagh-Joyce for his tireless work throughout the year and for his overall selfless commitment to the Club. We really appreciate it.

The Club 100 draw for July was also held and the lucky winner was Anthony Finnegan, McGing’s Bar. Congratulations Anthony. So far 4,500 euros have been won by 100 Club Members. Details of how to become a member can be supplied by any Committee member or are available on this website.

All in all it was a fantastic day and for those who missed out this year make sure to note it in your calendar next season. It was a superb way to see out last season and embrace the new. Outgoing President, Joe Corcoran thanked everyone for their support during his two year term and incoming President, Pat McCormack was looking forward to continuing on the good work already carried out. He also said that the community spirit and solidarity shown during the Club work day was an indication of great things to come for the Club.

The next big day for the Club will be Players Registration. As in previous years we will be registering all players from U7 right through to Seniors on the one day. Alongside registration, the Boomerang Boot Exchange will be in operation and we will be taking orders for all playing kit and Bulls branded training and leisure wear. Full details of the Registration day will be sent out in the next couple of weeks - watch out for the newsletters and on the website.

Any player, member, parent, friend of the Club or supporter who is not getting the text updates or e-newsletter and would like to, can send their details to Pat on 087 241 2360 or Simon on 086 392 0600 to be included.

Once again thank you to all volunteers and a special mention must go to Peter Moore for wiring up the sound system, Sean Corcoran for the sand and drainage stones, Joe O’Grady for spreading the fertiliser, Joe Corcoran for his loading shovel, Eddie Walsh for organising the painting, Bernie Nolan for organising the girls work and of course Michael Henehan for his continuing help in the bar.
