Friday (5 March) was a fantastic success for Westport RFC in terms of girls’ rugby. Having started girls youth rugby only a matter of weeks ago the club managed to field two teams to play in exhibition games at half time at the Sportsground, Galway during the Connacht v Glasgow match. This is a great achievement in a very short space of time and an indication of the interest there is in Westport in girls youth rugby. But not only did they field two teams but both teams played very well, showing great talent, skill and courage, winning one of the games v Ballina girls convincingly and coming close in the other.
We ask any parents, particularly mums, of the youth girls to consider getting involved. The more parents involved the better a service we can provide to the girls. No rugby skills or experience required. Help is needed in a whole range of areas, coaching on field being only one of them. Other areas we need help include first aid, administration, supervision, hospitality, etc. So please let us know if you can make yourself available. We can guarantee a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.
